aws cut cognito's free allowance from fifty thousand monthly active users to ten thousand for any user pool created on or after 22 november 2024, and made essentials rather than lite the default tier for new pools. the old fifty thousand figure survives only for pools created before that date. almost every comparison still published quotes it.
the practical effect at this category's anchor is a four-way answer depending on when you started and what you picked. a pre-november-2024 pool on lite pays $0 at fifty thousand users. a new pool on lite pays $220. a new pool on essentials — the default — pays $600. a new pool on plus pays $1,000, because plus has no free allowance at all and bills from the first user.
