ZeroBounce
the most complete result object of any verifier we tested
verdictthe best all-rounder — accurate, unusually transparent about catch-all and greylisted results, and the only one that consistently told us why an address failed.

zerobounce returns more per address than anyone else on this list: status, sub-status, whether the domain is catch-all, a free/role flag, an activity-data signal, and often a suggested spelling correction for obvious typos. in practice the sub-status field is what makes it worth the price — 'mailbox_not_found' and 'greylisted' are different problems, and every other tool collapses them into 'invalid' or 'unknown'.
the design intent is visible throughout: it would rather return an honest unknown than a confident guess, and it gives you the sub-status you need to decide what to do about it. that is the opposite of how the budget tools behave.
the api is well documented and rate limits are generous. bulk csv handling is solid up to a few million rows, though the ui gets sluggish on very large files and you are better off using the api for anything over ~500k.
the pricing is the main complaint. at low volume it is roughly double the cheapest credible option, and the a la carte add-on products (email finder, inbox placement, blacklist monitor) are priced as separate subscriptions rather than bundled.
- +sub-status codes actually explain the result
- +catch-all domains are flagged rather than guessed at
- +typo suggestions catch a surprising number of real signups
- +credits from pay-as-you-go purchases don't expire
- +strong soc 2 / gdpr posture, eu data residency available
- −roughly 2x the price of budget verifiers at low volume
- −useful extras are sold as separate subscriptions
- −web ui slows down noticeably on very large csv files
