the first thing to know about this category is that nine of the ten providers here publish no uptime sla at all. spheron states 99.9% and everyone else — including the ones selling to enterprises — says nothing on the pricing page about what happens when the machine goes away mid-run. for a workload where an interrupted training job costs real money, that silence is the most important shared fact in the market.
the second is that the advertised rate is frequently not a rate. coreweave quotes per eight-gpu node, so its $49.24 reads as a per-gpu price to anyone skimming and is actually $6.16. lambda's per-gpu price changes with instance size — $4.29 renting one, $3.99 renting eight — so the single figure quoted in comparisons is wrong at both ends. paperspace labels its own headline number a promo. spheron's pricing page says $2.54 and spheron's own blog says $2.01. vast.ai's number is a marketplace floor that moves with supply.
the good news, and it is genuinely good: egress is free at runpod, lambda, coreweave, hyperstack and paperspace. the hyperscaler habit of charging you to get your own data back has not taken hold among the specialists, and it makes the gap to aws and google wider than the hourly rates suggest.
one structural difference worth knowing before you compare anything: aws and google do not sell a single h100. capacity comes in fixed eight-gpu instances, so the smallest thing you can buy is roughly eight times the smallest thing you can buy anywhere else. comparison tables that put a per-gpu hyperscaler figure next to a specialist's are describing purchases you cannot actually make.

the trap is in the storage table, and it inverts the advice everyone gives. volume disk costs $0.10 per gb per month while a pod runs and $0.20 while it is stopped. shutting a pod down to save money doubles the storage line, and network volumes bill hourly even though compute bills per second.
the gap is accountability. there is no published sla or uptime percentage for standard pods; 'sla-backed uptime' appears only against enterprise reserved clusters at ten-thousand-gpu scale, with no figure attached. at this price that is a reasonable trade, but it should be a decision rather than a surprise.

the h100 80gb on-demand rate, per gpu per hour, is the anchor for every entry — not because it's the best chip to rent in 2026, but because it's the one nearly everyone lists, which makes it the only honest like-for-like column. where a vendor quotes per node we divide and say we divided.
prices are the vendor's own published figures on the review date. we do not use the comparison posts several of these companies publish about each other — runpod, spheron and others all rank the field with themselves in it.
we treat everything billed alongside compute as part of the price: egress, persistent storage, and whether the meter stops when the instance does. runpod's volume storage costs twice as much while a pod is stopped as while it runs, which inverts the usual advice to shut things down.
spot and preemptible rates are reported where published, and labelled as what they are. an interruptible $1.14 and a guaranteed $3.25 are not competing numbers.
google cloud is not ranked. its gpu pricing page could not be read within our budget across repeated attempts, and the figures circulating elsewhere — around $11 per gpu-hour — are not ones we could confirm from google. aws is ranked on its capacity blocks reservation price, the only figure we could verify from an aws page, and the entry says so rather than presenting it as an on-demand rate.
