the $297 figure needs the asterisk stated clearly: planetscale's skus track ram, and there is no 2 vcpu / 8gb option, so the anchor forces ps-160 at 16gb. you're paying for double the memory rather than being overcharged for the same thing, and a workload that actually wants 16gb sees a very different comparison.
